Evidently, the amp blew its output transistors, (rare with these amps actually) and it was repaired with non-matching parts, and some counterfeit output transistors. Not slagging the 555 at all.Īs mentioned I use (2) 4B NPG's now to power Dunlavy SC-V's. I’ve rescued this beautiful Adcom GFA-555 Mark II from an amateurish repair attempt. The 4B's are a work horse and I like the build quality.
I usually have a pair of Klipsch RP-160ms for this near-field setup, but I do prefer the sound quality of the Dynacos. I will say though that they easily fill this small room with plenty of great sound. To my ears the 555 seemed a little more colored and veiled when compared to the 4B. I do have to be careful with them, however, as I have a 200+watt/ch. To me the 4B has more "clean" gain (headroom) than the 555 The 4B is 250 (8 ohm) watts a side 800 bridged (8 ohm) On the surface the 555 is rated 200 watts a side (8 ohm) - 600 watts (mono) 8 ohm
